John Hallgarth is a BIM enthusiast from Southern California’s commercial construction market. He is passionate about helping designers, builders, and owners of all types leverage Virtual Design and Construction (VD&C) practices to improve the quality and outcome of their projects.
While leading VD&C on a variety of challenging projects large and small, John has developed some deep workflows that leverage model data at high levels. One of his specialties is developing construction caliber quantity and cost reports directly from model elements. This approach is built from a commercial builders perspective, with a focus on organizing reports into logical bid packages that represent the trades of construction. He breaks this process down to make it easy and fast to extract and refresh model data with common tools like Excel.
Through this process he is able to link in various tasks and responsibilities for design review, estimating, bidding, procurement, quality control, scheduling, and many other tasks. This is a cradle to grave approach of managing projects, all organized in a virtual environment that brings teams together.
With extensive experience in this field, he is now taking this approach and helping other firms within AEC harness the power of data and implement in their own practices. John has developed a 2-Day Cost Estimating workshop that exposes many of these secrets between the BIM environment and Excel. He also provides consulting services for firms who want to build customized solutions, delivered with hands-on training for team members.
